Two Year Old Birthday Party Theme Roundup

Hello lovelies! I’m popping in today to share some ideas with you about two year old birthday parties.  I can.not. believe that we will have a two year old in two weeks! It is just so crazy how fast time is going.

I am in full swing planning mode for our sweet girls second birthday party and let me tell you, there are so many cute ideas that I would love to have like 10 different parties if I could. But that would be totally excessive and I’m thankful that we are able to have 1 party for her.

I remember as a kid we didn’t really have birthday parties. Not like they do today.  I had a lot of siblings so we always just celebrated our birthday as a family. We usually got to go out to dinner at our favorite restaurant as a family. Totally not saying there is anything wrong with that, in fact we are keeping that same tradition in our family and I love it. When we were older we were able to have friend birthday parties, but even that was just basically having a sleepover with your closest girlfriends.

So I guess what I’m trying to say is that birthday parties are nothing like they used to be.  Now a days there is so much pressure to have the perfect party with the perfect invitations, decorations, food and theme. Oh you were thinking about having a party without a theme?! GASP!

For me this is what I love to do though. I love to get creative and host parties so its almost more fun for me than for our daughter.  But this year she totally understand what her birthday is, and that she will be two, and that it will be a Minnie Mouse theme.  I will share all the pictures and ideas with you after the party in a few weeks but here are some ideas I found while searching the internet for two year old birthday parties.

Two-tti Fruity Party

I love, love, love this theme and the ideas from Pizzazzerie. I really wanted to do it for Anika’s birthday this year, but because her birthday is in February it just didn’t seem to fit.  Maybe someday if I have a child born in the summer we could do this. It’s just so bright and fun I love it!

Tea for Two

This theme so adorable. It’s sweet and pretty and I just love it. I’m not sure at this age Anika would do well with a tea party but maybe a future birthday.  There are so many cute ideas for this theme out there it was hard to find just one image. I can just imagine inviting all your little friends over and they wear their pretty dresses and play, sigh, I love little girls.  I’m a huge pink and gold fan, obviously from my wedding you can tell that.  Maybe someday I’ll share wedding photos on the blog lol.  Anyway, so cute!

Minnie Mouse Party- Oh Two-dles

We are obviously going with the Minnie Mouse theme because, hello, girl is obsessed.  She loves everything about Minnie and she is slowly taking over our house.  So since it is HER birthday, I suppose we can have a theme of something she actually loves. But I’m totally digging the pink and gold minnie theme over the traditional black and pink.

Elmo Party

It was kind of a toss up between an Elmo party and a Minnie Party.  Anika loves both equally, but in the end she decided on Minnie.  I even ask her opinion. Its really funny if you give her a choice of two things she will usually pick the second option, probably because you said it last. But when I asked her both ways, she chose Minnie both times.

Sprinkled With Love Party

Isn’t this the sweetest? I love the whole thing.  It’s super easy and doable as well. Colorful and fun!

Sparkle & Glitter Party

Image Via

Ok, what little girl wouldn’t want a sparkle and glitter party? I love this theme. The possibilities are endless and it would make any little girl feel so special.

 Unicorn Party

Image Via

I just love this unicorn party idea. Anika can’t yet tell the difference between a horse and a unicorn but I still think it’s so cute and whimsical.

There are literally so many different ideas out there but these are just a few of my favorites.  Have you ever hosted a little girls party? What’s your favorite theme?  Stay tuned for the reveal of how our sweet girls party turns out.

2016 Review

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you all had a safe and fun New Years Eve. I spent it at home with my best girl, while Pat went to a party a friends of ours were hosting.  We weren’t able to find a babysitter so I stayed home and honestly…I’m not even mad. I remember (barely) the NYE’s spent out at a bar until way past midnight but those just aren’t as fun for me anymore when I know I have a toddler to be present with the next day.  Hangovers are not fun, and I’m not immune to them, unfortunately.  Maybe someday we will go all out and fancy again, but for a while I’m totally ok with staying home.

2016 was a pretty crazy year for us. There were a lot of ups and downs, more up’s than downs but I’m really ready to see what 2017 has in store for us.  I just wanted to share a little bit of all the things that happened for us and our family in 2016.

Maier Farms Members

Patrick and I officially became partners in his family’s dairy farm.  I just want to say that I am so proud of my hubby and how hard he works. He really has a passion for farming and I am so happy that he can continue to help build on what his grandfather, dad and uncle helped build before him.

Our Baby Girl turned 1

I can not even explain how fast her first year of life went. It was such a whirlwind of emotions, just trying to acclimate to life as new parents and make sure that you are doing everything right.  She is such a smart happy girl and we love her so much. I actually can’t even believe that she will be two in less than two months.  It’s so cliche but it truly does go by so fast, so make sure that you soak up each and every moment you can.

Bachelors Degree

Shortly after we got married I decided to go back to school and get my bachelors degree. About a week into classes I found out that I was pregnant with Anika.  I made the decisions to stick with it and get my degree.  Almost 2 years later I managed to graduate with my bachelors degree in graphic design. I am so glad that I accomplished this goal and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my amazing family.

Shortly after graduating I accepted a position as Marketing Coordinator at the company that I had been working with for almost 10 years.  I can actually say that I love my job and couldn’t be more happy with where I am in my career. It may have taken me a little longer to decide what I want to be when I grow up but I’m so happy that I am finally realizing and achieving these goals.

Expecting our 2nd child

In June we found out that we were expecting our second child. We were so excited that Anika was going to be a big sister. A little surprised that it happened so quickly, but so excited.  It was funny because  I actually found out the same way that I found out we were pregnant with Anika.  It was a Saturday morning and we had a wedding to go to. Things just didn’t feel “normal” so I decided to take a pregnancy test. Lo and behold it was positive.  Patrick was already busy in the fields that summer so we were always running late. I just laid the test out on the bathroom counter for him to find when he came home.  It was such an exciting day, especially since we went to the wedding and found out later that our best friends were also expecting! We literally had due dates a day apart, how crazy is that?!

Our Baby Went to Heaven

I went in for our regular 12 week scan just to see how things were progressing and meet with our doctor when we found out that our babies heart had stopped beating a few weeks prior.  It was a normal checkup and I still felt very pregnant so we had no idea. I had really bad morning/all day sickness with Anika for almost 14 weeks so nothing seemed any different with this pregnancy.  Sadly, we will never get to meet that sweet baby here on earth, but we understand that there is a reason for everything and trust that God has a plan for everyone.

Steamboat Springs Trip

Patrick and I took our first trip away from our girl to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It was such a fun little weekend getaway and I will always remember it. I shared some details of our trip in this post

Sold Our Childhood Home

My parents sold our childhood home to build a new house. This was a bittersweet moment for me in 2016. There were so many memories in that home, growing up with 6 siblings and all our neighbors and friends, they will never be forgotten.  It has been really fun helping my parents build their new home though. Thankfully they trust me to help them make some of the design decisions and it has been awesome. I hope to get a little tour for  you once they get moved in because I think it’s going to be beautiful!

Back to Blogging

As you may have noticed, I started to blog again.  I took a break right before we got married and then I went back to school and had Anika, so it definitely took a back seat to a lot of my priorities. However, it is something that I really enjoy doing, even if I’m the only one that reads it, so I am going to try to post more often and constantly in 2017.  Decorating and house projects are always on my mind and I’m always changing things around our house, so make sure you tune in for the latest on those projects as well as life.  Being a mother is the most amazing thing and I’m glad that I have a place to share all the ups and downs.

Well that was just a little recap of some of the events/milestones that happened for us in 2016. I cannot wait to see what 2017 has in store for us because so far, there are some really great things on the horizon that hopefully someday I can share with you all.

Make 2017 your best year yet!

A Touch of Fall

Hello! Just thought I would drop in and share a little fall tour of our house.  Over the past year or two I have tried to keep things simple around here when it comes to fall decorating and decorating for the seasons.  I like to try and incorporate things here and there that mix well with my year round decor and since its pretty neutral, thats not too hard to do.  Not to mention, it can be hard decorating around an almost two year old and all the toys.  My goodness, the toys, who knew someone so small would require so much stuff? And truthfully, she would be fine just playing with the remote control if thats all we had. But what kind of parent would I be if I didn’t have toys for her?   Anyway, lets get to the fall decor.

I love decorating that little shelf for different seasons.  Like I said, I don’t go too crazy with the fall decor but just a touch here and there. I might not be able to control myself when it comes to Christmas though.

Steamboat Springs | A First Timers Guide

steamboat springs first timers guide

The hubby and I just got back from an amazing short getaway to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It was kind of a last minute trip and I really can’t believe that he was able to get away in the middle of harvest but I’m so grateful that we made the time and took the chance. We were comped a weeks stay at a ski lodge and found some pretty amazing deals on round trip airfare through Frontier. So away we jetted for a few days up in the mountains. Here is a list of some of the things we did and a little guide if your a first timer like us.

Where We Stayed

We had the opportunity to stay at the Legacy Vacation Resort Club in Steamboat Springs Hilltop. To be honest my first impression online wasn’t that great, but it was free so I wasn’t going to complain. When we got there I was very pleasantly surprised. It was very clean, there were tons of great accommodations and the staff was very friendly.  From what I understand they have a few different room options from studios to 1&2 bedroom suites.  We were in a studio and it was really just the right size for us.

Where We Ate

I love food, I’m just going to put that out there. So when I’m traveling food is basically my main priority.  Pat and I always joke about how our plans basically depend on when we will eat next and I’m really not sorry about that. All the food we ate while on vacation was A-MA-ZING, not cheap, but totally worth it.  We definite splurged on a lot of meals but totally justified it by the fact that eating out without any distractions of our child flailing around the table and not wanting to sit still doesn’t happen very often, so it totally made sense to us. Here are a few of the places we chowed down.

+ Freshies

So good. The cinnamon rolls were huge and delish. Like I don’t really know how else to describe them but amazing. And Pat is definitely a cinnamon roll con-assure and he loved it.  I also introduced him to a latte.  Don’t ask me how he has made it almost 28 years in life and has never had a latte, but needless to say, he’s now a fan. I got the avocado smash with weeds. Not weed, we were in Colorado, but didn’t partake in any of that kind of activity. It was really good and kept me full until dinner time even after a whole day of hiking.

+Back Door Grill

We stopped at a local spot called Back Door Grill for our first dinner. If you are looking for a very local spot with good burgers this is the place to go. I don’t know if it was because we were clearly not locals or the service wasn’t that great, but the service wasn’t that great. We were not told about any of the happy hour specials and a table of locals sat down right next to us and ordered off that menu…so $9.50 for a mixed drink later, were weren’t too impressed. So if you are planning to go here I would definitely ask about the specials if you’re looking to save a few dollars.  I think there was even a coupon that I found later in one of the Steamboat Tourist books. I recommend you pick one of those up at your hotel or wherever you see one because it did save us a few dollars here and there.

This place was so cute, and you could definitely tell it was a local favorite spot.  There was a bit of a wait but it was totally worth it.  The food was amazing and the staff was so friendly. Much more reasonable prices for the amount of food you get.

+Ore House at Pine Grove

We loved this place. If you are looking for a steak restaurant I recommend this one. It was your classic supper club steak and seafood restaurant and it did not disappoint. The portions were very plentiful and I recommend getting the house potatoes, so good.  There was a coupon in the tourist guide for 10% off your entree which was nice since it was pretty pricy.  If you plan to go, make a reservation because it gets super busy and chances of getting in without one are pretty slim.

+Johnny B Good’s Diner

I chose to eat breakfast here on our last day because I had read so many great reviews and I’m a sucker for a classic American diner.  It was super cute and the moment you walked in you felt like you were in the 1950’s.  We each got a classic breakfast and because we were able to make it in early it was 1/2 off.  I think their early bird special is from 7-9 so defiantly take advantage of that.

What We Did

+ Hiking

On our first full day we went hiking at Fish Creek Falls just a short drive from downtown Steamboat. It was so beautiful and definitely a challenge hike for beginners like us.  It took us a while to get to the top but it was absolutely beautiful. We kept saying that we couldn’t believe we are in t-shirts right now and there is snow on the ground next to us.  If you are looking for a nice hike with beautiful views check this place out.

img_5446+Horseback Riding

We went horseback riding which was so fun. I have never really been real horseback riding before so I was pumped. Pat has been before and apparently had bad experiences each time with his horse. We did some research and decided to go with Saddleback Ranch.  They one of the more popular ranches in the area but it was just a short 20 minute drive from downtown Steamboat so we decided to use them.  It was so beautiful to ride through the mountains and hills.  I would say that was definitely one of my highlights from the whole trip.  I think Pat would agree as well.

+Strawberry Park Hot Springs

We went to a natural hot springs, Strawberry Park, in the afternoon and it was so cool. It’s crazy that something like this exists in the middle of the mountains. There were a few different “pools” or levels and the temperature could change within like 20 degrees between the two. The best way to really describe it was like a dirty hot tub with a sandy floor. I mean it wasn’t like icky dirty that you didn’t want to be in it but it was more like a lake water but better. Its hard to explain but definitely something you have to try if you have the opportunity.

+Fat Tire Bikes

We rented some fat tire bikes and went biking on the trails through town. We attempted to bike up in the mountains but…that didn’t work out as well as we anticipated. Turns out those hills are super steep. And I’m pretty sure there is still some way that people get to the top and then just bike down the mountain.  But none the less it was a fun experience and a good work out.  steamboat springs a first timers guide

So in a nutshell that was our trip. I feel like we crammed a lot of stuff into 4 days but it was really nice to just be together and getaway from all things work and responsibility for a while.  I feel like my daughter grew up so much in just those 4 days so it will probably be a while until we take another trip without her. But I think its always important to keep your marriage fresh and doing a quick getaway like this is a good way to do so if you can.

5 Things I NEEEED

So…I have been wanting to make a post to share with the world some of the things that I think I need or my life might end.  I’m being totally dramatic when I say my life might end, but here’s a list of some things that I would enjoy in my life.  Just a few things that I have been crushing on lately.

I neeeeed this CD and like 30 copies so I can listen to it wherever I go, and have extra to bring along in my friends cars.  I have been listening to this on repeat at work for like the past week #sogood. I particularly love #6 #7  #12 & #15 – actually I really love them all.

urban decay naked palette 3

This eye shadow pallet from Urban Decay is so amazing and I realllllyyyy want one. But its like $52 and I’m a cheapo, and have a wedding to pay for. So I’m seriously saving my pennies to buy this because I want it so bad.  I mean look at all those pretty colors.  After I purchase this, I plan to spend at least 10 hours on Youtube learning how to apply it because I need help when it comes to makeup, but I still love it.

If spring ever comes…I need  pair of these Hunter Rain Boots, specifically in graphite gray. Oh and the glossier the better!

Botanical Rose iPhone 5 + 5s Case - INLAY

I not only want this amazing Botanical Rose iPhone case from Rifle Paper Co, but I need it. Its for the safety of my phone.  I spent lots of my dollars on my new iPhone 5s, which I love more than I should so I need to make sure I am properly protecting it.  I think my justification is perfectly reasonable.

Ok last thing, this Kate Spade bag.  I’m pretty much in love with all things KS. And this bag is just amazing. I would probably never spend this much money on a bag, but I can still love it, right?  I have been wanting a cross body bag for a while now and I haven’t purchased one yet, I’m still on the lookout for one that’s reasonably priced.  But so far, this one is in the running.

Ok now you all know a few things that I am totally in love with at this moment. I mean my birthday is coming up in 29 days after all…(hint. hint.)

What are you currently loving and feel like you might “die” if you don’t get? Would any of my picks be on your list?

Have a great weekend and thanks for reading!

Joy Banner {DIY}

Hey Hey Hey! Happy Wednesday, hope your all having a great week, don’t worry only a few more days until Friday then its the weekend!! We are hosting an ugly Christmas sweater/white elephant party at our house on Saturday and I have been busy for weeks trying to get the basement in shape.  We have the drywall guy coming tonight so fingers crossed, we can get that done before Saturday.  I cant wait to show you all the progress we have made down there with the craft area and closet that Patrick built.

You may have noticed from the post about our Christmas Mantel & on our home tour the other day this sweet little JOY banner that I made. Well, in case you were wondering where I got it or how I made it, this post is definitely for you. And guess what! It’s sooo easy. Here’s a step by step process for you.

3 book pages

Twine, string or ribbon

Craft paint & brush

Stencil {I actually just free handed my letters)

Ruler or straight edge

Elmers Glue & Glitter [ optional & not pictured]

{Step 1}

Gather Supplies

{Step 2}

With a pencil, draw a line from the bottom corner of the page diagonally to the center. Repeat on the other side so it  looks like a triangle. Cut out the bottom triangle so it looks like image 3.

{Steps 3 & 4}

Free hand or stencil your letters on the center of the page.  Color it in with your paint and set aside to let it dry. I decided later that i wanted to add some glitter around the edge of the letters. To do this, I traced the letter with white Elmers glue and sprinkled glitter on the glue.

{Step 5}

Once everything is dry its time to attach it to your twin, string or ribbon. I fold over the top of the page about a 1/2 inch down and glued it to the backside with the string in between. This still lets me move the pages along the string if I need to and they stick in place pretty well when I want them to.  Next you hang it where every you like! I hung mine on my mantel between our two stockings and I love how the lights from the Christmas tree or above the TV hit the glitter just right and its super sparkly and festive!

Joy Banner 5 steps

christmas mantel 2

See, like I said, super easy! What do you think? Will you try making one?

I feel like I want to make banners with all different sayings now. How cute would little mini ones without letters be for garland on your tree?

Have a great weekend friends!

Christmas Mantel

Yesterday I told you all I was in full Christmas mode and my friends I’m afraid its still going. Today I’m joining a great link party that some of my favorite bloggers are putting together.  They are hosting a party for everyone to share their Christmas mantels so that’s what I’m sharing with you today.  Now, lets see what I put together this year! (p.s. I had to take most of the pictures at night, sadly because I leave for work while its still pretty much dark and get home at dark this time of year)

christmas mantel 4

This year I stuck with a gold, white and red theme.

christmas mantel 2

I bought this swag at a Christmas antique show that I went to and stuck my deer antlers in the center. I made this JOY banner, stay tuned for the super easy tutorial on that!

Craft Room {Inspiration}

Hey Guys! Sorry I have been a little lacking in the post department lately. I have our basement on the brain. We are trying to actually make sense of the massive amount of unused space we have down there. We have many plans for the basement that we plan to work on this winter, but our first project to tackle is my craft room/area.

So we have this random nook in our basement that we are not sure what the previous owners or builders intended to use it for because it’s just weird. Is not a space that you could make as a bedroom because there aren’t any windows, and you couldn’t add one because it would stick out in front of the house and look dumb. We thought possibly a work out space, but its the first thing you see when you come down the stairs and I don’t really want that to be work out equipment. And lets be honest, I don’t own any. So for the past year and a half I have been using it as my craft area.  Which basically boils down to a space that has accumulated all my projects and junk and sewing machines (yes I have two, and I have a skill level of basically less than beginner) and chair’s that I plan to one day reupholster and so on and so forth.

I would love to show you what we were starting with, but I cant find a picture. And I’m a bad blogger and forgot to take a before pic.  Just take my word, its bad.

While we are working on making this area a little more user friendly and organized, and to further prevent people from running back up the stairs to tell me that a tornado recently passed through I’ve rounded up some inspiration of what we would like this space to look like.

A definite must is to add some base cabinets and counter tops along the back and the side wall. I really like the L shaped counters used in the room above.
I love the open shelving in this room. I definitely would like to incorporate that into the space so I can have things easily accessible. And I think it will force me to keep things clean and organized.
I definitely love the eclectic look of this space. And how they added lighting to the walls.  I will for sure be needing a large peg board.
I love the way they used pretty storage boxes on their shelves in this space.
I love the look this home office/craft room that Beth created in her old farmhouse basement. I think if she can make that look this good, I should be able to as well.
So that’s where we are currently at with our craft room progress. I will be painting base cabinets over the next few days and hopefully we can get some countertops installed before the weekend is over. We are also planning to paint all the walls in the basement this weekend too. Ohh and why not throw a wedding in the mix, I mean we are pretty much professional wedding attenders now, I think this will be #7 for the year!  There is a lot of work to get done…but we have high hopes!

Chalkboard Wall

Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a great weekend. We spent ours with friends and family and it was so nice.  Saturday night we went out to a Halloween costume contest. Yes, I know Halloween is over, but we didn’t get the chance to celebrate the weekend before so we decided to all get together, dress up and go out. It was such a fun time spend with great friends.  This year the boys were Guns N’ Roses and us girls dressed up as Frosty’s snow ladies!

halloween 2013

A few weeks or maybe a month or two ago, I painted a small wall in our kitchen with chalkboard paint. I have been wanting to do this for a long time and I adore all the other chalkboard walls out in blog land and decided it was time for us to have one.  Our kitchen only has one window, and doesn’t get a ton of natural light, so I chose the smallest wall we had.  It’s kind of an awkward space and I’m still trying to find the perfect table or something to fit there, but for now I keep an old step ladder from my granny and egg crate on top of it.

chalkboard wall before pic

I love the fact that I can change this wall up for all the seasons or just write inspirational quotes on it. For most of September and October it looked like this.

harvest time chalkboard

And I changed it up a bit for Halloween.

halloween chalkboard

And here’s how it looks today..

be thankful chalkboard

November is all about being thankful, and we have so much to be thankful for.  I love this quote that I found on Pinterest.  So what do you think of the chalkboard wall? Do you have one? I love mine and cant wait to change things up for Christmas.
